Women'S Division

KAITAIA BRANCH The Kaitaia branch of the W.D.F.U. held their monthly meeting on Monday Mrs Buckle presiding over a good attendance of members. Mrs Turner read the creed, members standing. Mesdames Buckle. Bell and Hudson gave an interesting account of their visit to the half-yearly conference at Ohaeawai. Mrs Buckle reported an increased demand for W. D. housekeepers and spoke of the good work they were doing. A letter was received from the Kaitaia Womens’ Institute inviting the members of the W.D. to attend a social afternoon they are holding on November 7th. Nurse Wilkinson’s talk on the management of a children’s health camp was listened to with much interest by members and she was accorded a vote of thanks. During the afternoon quite a number of visitors came to view the display of Blind Institute basket-ware and bought generously. There is still a quantity to be sold. All articles are strongly and attractively made and prices are reasonable. Good entries were received’for the hand embroidered supper cloth, Mrs Stuart Masters winning both Ist. and 2nd. prizes. The competition for the box of fruit was won by Mrs H. Foster. The Awanui Rd. members managed the trading table and did good business. The usual monthly card afternoon will be held in the Parish hall on Novembe 21. The competition for November is the best bloom and the best cluster, prizes to be given for each. The roll call is to be a limerick.

At the close of the meeting the hostesses, Mesdames Churchill, Pettit, Senn and Turner served afternoon tea to members and visitors.

Mrs. Buckle, the North Auckland housekeepers’ secretary, reported that the last six months had been a very busy period, with many calls for assistance. At present about 30 housekeepers under the Control of the Division were engaged in Northern districts. < An invitation to delegates from the Division to attend quarterly meetings of sub-provincial branches of the Burners’ Union was accepted. Congratulations were extended to Mrs. Lane upon her election as a vicepresident of the Dominion body. Miss Tomlinson, of Ruawai, was appointed temporary housekeeper for the southern portion of the district. Much interest was taken in a rug, made by Mrs. A. E. Harding (Dargaville). She demonstrated how this had been fashioned from the raw fleece. The next meeting of the council, the annual meeting, will be held at Whangarei on the first Wednesday in May, 1936. Thanks were extended to the members of the Ohaeawai branch, who supplied morning and afternoon tea, and in many ways made the stay of the visitors an enjoyable one.
