Motor Car Accident at Victoria Valley
Painful injuries were received* by Messrs I. Wilson and O. Kitchen, of Kaitaia, when the car, belonging to and under the control of the former, went over a bank while en route from Victoria Valley to Kaitaia, last Wednesday night at about II o’clock. Tlie scene of tlie mishap was liy the bridge near Mr. J. H. White’s residence, where tlie car skidded in loose metal on tlie road and rolled down tlie 20ft bank, coming to rest upside down and pinning tlie occupants under it. Fortunately the accident was noticed as a result of the lights going off the road when the vehicle overturned and a rescue party, with Mr. White in tlie lead, immediately rushed to tlie spot. On lifting tlie car it was found that both men were unconscious. Dr. 11. G. ltix was immediately summoned and tlie police notified, Constables M. Thornell and P. Olemence arriving shortly after. Mr. Kitchen, who received a cut at the back of one ear, was taken to Mr. Henry White's residence, and Mr. Wilson, whose anil was severely lacerated, was taken to tlie Kaitaia Hospital by Mr. E. White. Botli men are progressing satisfactorily. Much credit is due to tlie baud of helpers, who exercised great presence of mind in using torches, and not employing naked lights while assisting tlie injured men, whose clothes were subsequently found to have been saturated in benzine. Tlie body of tlie car, a Ford touier, was extensively damaged.
