Kaitaia Centenary
Natives decide to erect Suitable Memorial Prior to the Native service which took place in St. Saviour’s Church, Kaitaia, on Sunday December 3rd, (one of those services which takes place every Sunday in Advent to commemorate and honour the Christian work of the pioneer missionaries who planted the first seed of the faith in Kaitaia and the outlying districts) a short discussion took place in connection with the coming centenary of Kaitaia, in March of 1934. The meeting was a represented one, members from the following tribes being presentAupouri, Ngaitakoto, Patukoraha, Rarawa, Te Paatu and Ngatikaliu. It was decided by the Natives to erect a monument to commemorate these pioneer missionaries somewhere near the Kaitaia Anglican Church, to he unveiled at the coming centenary of Kaitaia. The cost of the monument is to be shouldered by the tribes. The resolutions were carried unanimously.
