Ahipara School Concert

On Friday last a concert and children's dance in aid of the local school sports fund, took place in the Korou Hall, Ahipara. A large au lienee listened appreciatively to the various items. In addition to the numerous school dances, songs, sketches and hakas, chiefly performed by the football team hoys, filled a lengthy programme of twenty-one items. Among the most noteworthy items were, a duet, “Hcla Ra”, by Jack Morgan and Morgan Nathan, and a solo, “When the Bloom is on the Sage”, by Tom Everitt. Choruses by the primary children, and a “Song of the Sea”, by the seniors gave evidences of careful training.

A playette, “Catching a Lunatic", which had- a strong flavour of football was neatly performed by Mary Paitai and Tom Everitt, Jack Morgan, Morgan Nathan and Robert Phillips. The concluding “Football Song” went with a swing, while a ferocious war haka by the Fooler Ten gave promise of the following day’s victory oil the sports field. Tom Everitt acted as chairman and announcer, and the whole performance and stage management was carried out by the children, except accompaniments which were played by Miss M. Urlich, the assistant teacher.

At the conclusion, short speeches were delivered by Mr. R. Mahu, Chairman of School Committee, and Mr. Shirley Masters, who has been acting as coach to the football team.

A dance for adults continued through the night until the usual hour of dispersal.
