The Kaitaia Women’s Division, the largest branch in the North, held its monthly meeting in Foster’s room on Tuesday. Mrs. D. Lewis presided, and there was an attendance of some thirty-five. The Recent School Bus Accident After some discussion, a resolution was passed that a letter be sent to the Kaitaia School Committee suggesting that the following clause be added to the bus contract : “That the contractor have • the conveyance overhauled at least once a year and that a mechanic certify once a month to its road effectiveness. Advertising New Zealand Goods It was decided that when Miss Janies, who is travelling from the Noith Cape to the Bluff on foot to advertise New Zealand goods, is in Kaitaia, she be entertained at a social gathering in the Library hall. Children’s Picnic Considering a suggestion to hold a party for the children of members, it was decided instead to entertain them at a picnic during the school holidays, probably in conjunction with the Farmers’ Union annual picnic, which is held at Grassmere on New Year’s Day. Home Medical Aids Dr. Strack-Torrie delivered a very interesting address on home medical aid, dealing with the many minor mishaps which every family at times experiences, and their treatment, for which she was cordially thanked. Hostesses The Takahue members, Mesdames Carr, Ridings, Sanders, D. Kitchen and Quarterman acted as hostesses and dispensed afternoon tea.

TAKAHUE TENNIS CLUB

The Takahue Tennis Club employed the shining hours of last Saturday in a working bee, when the making of improvements in the drainage of the courts brought “beads of honest sweat” to the brows of the male members.

The Tennis Club members at the annual meeting elected Mr. D. Kitchen president, Mr. H. Carr secretary and treasurer, and Mrs. Switzer, Miss Wright and Messrs. Rogers, Masters and Switzer as the committee. The Club intends holding its Opening Day tomorrow (Saturday). The members hope for fine weather and the attendance of their friends from the other Clubs.

OPENING OF CRICKET SEASON

It is proposed to open the Kaitaia cricket season next Saturday with a Married versus Single Men’s match. All cricket enthusiasts, whether members or not, are invited by the Club to come along and have a ‘knock.’
