Takahue School Concert
Takahue was entertained at a school concert last Friday evening, when songs and recitations by the tiny tots delighted a crowded audience. The concerted numbers, “The Little Nut Tree,” “The Three Bears” and “Home Sweet Home” by some of the primers) were very pleasing. Outstandingly charming were the performances of Edith Doak in “The Shell’s Secret,” Winsome Leßoy in “Dancing Downstairs,” Keith Wright in “Missing,” and Wallie Hoddie in “Sympathy.” The Canoe Song acted by the senior girls was well received. The accompaniments were ably executed by Yolande Bastarde, who opened proceedings with a pianoforte solo, “Sunbeams.” A comedy entitled “In Cinderella’s Slippers,” which musit have necessitated weeks of preparation, was acted with spirit and elan by the older pupils. Maisie Carr as “Myra Tremaine” had the cares of hostess heavily upon her. Olive Kirtlan and Elaine Rogers made a pair of delightfully cheeky schoolgirls. Stuart Kirtlan appeared as a convincing elder brother, while Maidie Doak made a charming naive believer in Fairies. The part of Agather-next-door, a Miss on the fringe of society, was ably handled by Ruby McCullough. Jane, the garrulous old retainer, Berenice Wright, the little maid-of-all-work, Avery Carr, and the Fairy Godmother, Iris McCullough, made a talented cast. Supper and a dance following concluded a most enjoyable evening. The music, contributed by Mr. Murray and his band of three violins, ukelele and piano, with extra assistance by Messrs. Ramsay and Switzer, was excellent.
The school fund has been augmented to the extent of £lO as a result of the evening’s efforts.
