QUEEN CARNIVAL PROGRESSING.

KAITAIA CLUB ACTIVE. AWANUI IN THE FIELD. Although only Awanui and Kaitaia have so far nominated candidates for the great North Auckland Rugby Football Queen Carnival, the competition between these two bids to be exceedingly keen.

The Kaitaia club, by getting smartly off the mark, has a good lead so far. Activities were continued last Saturday evening by an innovation in the Kaitaia social sphere, a garden party being held in the grounds of Mr. and Mrs. J. Irvine’s home, kindly placed at the disposal of the Kaitaia Queen’s Committee. An evening was spent in dancing and games on the lawn, competitions, etc., a novel function proving a social and financial success. The next shot in the votewinning campaign will be fired on Thursday, when a street stall will be conducted in the shed next to Nobles’ Ltd., to raise funds for the Kaitaia candidate. Cakes, home-made sweets and produce will be on sale.

AWANUI INTO ACTION

BEACH SPORTS NEXT SATURDAY. A strong committee to watch the interests of the Awanui Club’s Queen was appointed at a meeting held last night. The Awanui money-raising campaign will commence on Easter Monday with a beach picnic and sports at Waihi, with the Awanui Band in attendance, and a dance following after the pictures the same evening in Evans’ Hall. A basket social will be held in the same hall on May 8.
