MAGISTRATE'S PHILATELIC PROPENSITIES.

FAKE RECEIPT DETECTED AN AUSTRIAN’S BLUNDER The knowledge of stamps gained by Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., through his hobby as a stamp collector brought to an abrupt end a case heard in the Kaitaia Magistrate’s Court last Court day. The action was one in which Jack Stanicich sued Tony Yelavich for moneys claimed to be owing on goods supplied. In support of his claim Stanicich produced a receipt, made out to Yelavich, for part-payment of the sum alleged to be owing. The receipt was dated 1924, but on examining the document Mr Morris immediately noticed that the postage stamp which it bore was of a variety which was first issued in 1926. Decision was given in favour of the defendant.
