Although the original Summer Time Bill has been turned down those in the towns and cities are divided on the question of local summertime. The movement has got good support in the South Island but in the North, the suggestion is meeting with a mixed reception. Wc see no reason why the scheme cannot be worked to meet the wishes of those employed in towns without in anyway inconveniencing the country dwelh rs.
Colonel Bell wired to the Secretary of the local branch of the Farmer’s Union on this matter as follows: Kindly wire me your branch’s opinion of Summertime Bill for towns and cities only. The Farmers Union replied as follows : Not opposed to Summertime Bill for towns and cities provided it does not inconvenience farming community.
