Mangonui Rugby Union.
Meeting Of Executive
Teams In Prospect
A meeting of the Mangonui Rugby Union was held in the “Age” office last week, Mr L. Mawhinney presiding in the unavoidable absence of the president Mr T J Fleming who had been called away to Auckland. Correspondence was read from several clubs indicating the number of teams that wonuld be playing this season. Te Hapua asked for affiliation, intimating that this club by combining with Te Kao, would be able to field an A and a B team.
Houhora nominated a junior :eam.
Herekino wrote stating that a senior team would be entered by that club.
Fairburn and Oruru will each enter a junior team.
Takahue will, it is stated be nominating a junior and so also will Ahipara.
Victoria Valley, Kaitaia and Awanui will each field senior teams and also junior teams. It will be seen from the foregoing that there is every prospect of the 1928 season in the Mangonui County being the best that has been experienced here for a long time.
The matter of establishing boundaries was dealt with, but it was decided that as the Union has power under its rules to deal with players on the “domecile” question, that this would serve the purpose of practically establishing boundaries. Another point of interest to players was that the clubs are called upon to supply a list of players on the date of the closing of nominations. Any additional players sent in after that date will be dealt with on their merits by the Union.
