Mr Bert Hiikler arrived safely at Darwin at 5.55 yesterday evening, covering the whole distance of 12,000 miles in 17 days’and t.ius beating the world’s record of Smith brothers by IT days. This i with an engine of only 30 horse p iwer, and with folding wings and a machine that can be bought for £075. He has had no fi lancial backing and has really u idertaken it to see his mother at Ejndaberg, tor which place he is now flying and where a great reception awaits him. There was great excitement ir. England when the news arrived that the airman had completed the journey. The whole trip has cost him £SO which is far less than steamer fare and expenses. The machine that the Smith brothers used was a super machine and of very high power, and they had very strong financial backing.
