Dad Mills Bomb.

Joker's Prank. What is thought to be another “bomb” joke was perpetrated in the East End of London. Under s telephone accumulator at 1, New Goulston Street, E., near the Aldgate East District Railway Station, a bomb of the Mills type was discovered. It was at first reported that the bomb was a live one, but a Daily Mail reporter learned that an examination made by the police showed that it had been rendered harmless. “There was little or no possibility of its going off,” it was stated. No I, New Goulston Street, is occupied by Reuben Isaacs as a stewed eel shop. Mrs D Hyams, his daughter, who found the bomb said to a Daily Mail reporter: We were called up by the telephone exchange this morning and asked to clear our line. The receiver, I found, was on, but the exchange persisted that ournutnber was calling. They asked me to see whether there was anything resting on the lines. It was while 1 was doing that that I found the bomb, hidden tinder an accumulator. I had no idea what it was. Showing it to a friend I said jokingly: Perhaps it is a bomb; somebody might be trying to blow us up in connection with this Sacco affair.” We put the bomb into a bucket of water. The police later took possession of it. Much excitement was caused in the the district by the discovery and a big crowd quickly assembled.
