Colonel Allen Bell, M.P., has received the following replies from the Hon. Minister of Public Works: TAKAHUE-BROADWOOD RUAD. That authority for the expenditure of £IOOO for widening purposes was issued to the District Engineer, Whangarei, on 19th , March. WAIMATE-KAEO ROAD * In reply to a deputation from the Bay of Islands County Council regarding making the above road a detour road, and that the Highways Board subsidise the cost of maintenance until such tim* as the Main Highway from Whangaroa to Okaihau is com.plefed, the Minister states that the question was gone into when the Main Highways Board was recently in the district, and is now under reference to the district Highways Council. WHANG A PE ROAD With reference to the representations made to him at Herekino regarding the extension of the above road from the Hui House to deep water the Minister states that although the route was surveyed about three years ago by the Mangonui County Council the route has not been legalised owing to the heavy compensation asked for by some of the European landowners. He is advised that there is at present no wharf at deep water, and it is not considered expedient u, to at present consider the question of providing one. The cost of the road Avould be £2OOO, and he regrets, therefore that hfc is at present unable to favourably II consider the question of the extension of 11 the road, especially as a wharf and shed 11 has been erected at the Hui House.
