THE RAGLAN SEAT.

i COLONEL RELL AND THE REFORM PARTY. . (From the “Waikat* Argus” of i December 4th, 1911.) I In the Gourse of a speech at Hamilton Colonel Allen Bell, a candidate for the Raglan seat, was reported as saying “he hoped . for the time when the Monarchy 1 would be abolished and the Republic would be established.” This matter has been brought before the Auckland Executive of the Political Reform League, and the following statement has been authorised for publication:— “t.—That Colonel Allen Bell is not the official candidate of the Political Reform League, and, while the Executive recognises

his right in common with that of every other citizen to offer his services to the electors, they are bound to point out that his candidature is undertaken in defiance of the express wish of the Waikato League, and against its decision to place Mr. R. F. Bollard in the field as the party’s candidate. 2.—That Colonel Allen Bell’s views upon the Monarchy, and his desire to see a Repuplic taki ig its place, have no place in the policy of the Reform Party, ,

upon whose behalf the Executive formally repudiates the disloyal utterances that have been attributed to Colonel Bell, and which he has not seen fit to deny. ' “3—That, while averse to inj lerfering between the candidates, i *^ e Reform League Executive I leels that Colonel Bell’s sentiments on a question that vitally ; ffecti the future of the Empire are so utterly at variance with the views of the official Opposition that they have no alternative but to call upon the Opposition Party in the Raglan Electorate to unite solidly in support of the official Opposition candidate, Mr. R. F. Bollard, whose candidature has the sanction and approval not merely of the Waikato Reform League and the Raglan branches of that league, but also of the Leader of the Opposition.”
