CHURCH NEWS.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND. The attention of churchmen is drawn to the size of this parish, which comprises the whole of the Mangonui County. Some time ago the Vestry wrote to the Standing Committee in Auckland asking to have the area reduced. A negative reply has since been received. An alternative scheme has been started to raise sufficient money to enable a Curate to be appointed to assist the Vicar. If Church members will meet the present small liability and subscribe liberally to the Curate Fund we should very soon have the services of a second clergyman. A good demonstration of the enthusiasm of the Vesty was given at a special meeting held last week, when in spite of the very severe weather, there was practically a full attendance. Last Wednesday a prayer meeting was held in St. Saviour’s Church lasting from 2 p.m. till 5, the occasion being the annual Whitsuntide day of continuous prayer.
