NORTHLAND PICTURES.
Programme For November. Nov 19th —“ Sqaure Shooter” —Buck Jones. “Flames of the Flesh Gladys Brockwell. Nov 23rd—" How Could you Jean” — Mary Pickford. Nov 26th—" The Speed maniac”—Tom Mix. Nov 30th—“ The Test of Honor John Barrymore. “The Square Shooter” Saturday’s big picture is a gripping romance, full of furious fight and frolicsome fun. Buck Jones, as the hero,BuckCrandall,is a cowboy on the look out for cattle thieves. The owner of the ranch, Montague, has sent his son Harold out West, with the idea of getting him away from the town in order to make a man of him. Harold objects to being force into ranch life, and escaping from his father’s overseer, finds his way to Buck’s Cabin. Whilst helping himself to Buck’s clothing he accidentally shoots the latter, and believing the wound to be fatal rushes away and poses as “Pizen Pete,” a desperate bandit. Buck, dressed in Harold's city clothes, is, taken for Harold, and all kinds of complications ensue. Buck rescues Barbara, (a sweet college girl in search of adventure) and her chum Samanthia, and they become involved in the action of the play. How, after enough excitement for a dozen men, Buck makes good you will see for yourself on Saturday night. The second picture is “Flames of the Flesh,” with Gladys Brockwell in the lead. There are a Cartoon, “Tango Dancers,” and two News’supporting. “How Could You, Jean,” is the star picture for Wednesday, with Mary Pickford as Jean. Jean Mackaye,an aristocratic young woman, is suddenly deprived of her income through the failure of her father, and bravely resolves to earn her own living, notwithstanding the protestations of her aristocratic friends. After some amusing adventures, she becomes cook in the family of Mr and Mrs Bonner, two literary devotees,livinginthecountry. One day, while endeavouring to escape from a goat, she encounters Ted Burton, the athlete son of a millionaire, and he is instantly attracted towards her. In order to be near Jean he assumes the functions of hired man. The elder Burton follows him to this retreat and takes up his residence at a neighbouring farm. Ted’s affection for Jean increases day by day. Jean confides to Henrietta,the Bonner Cow that she loves the hired man madly. A report gains currency that a defaulting bank president is in the neighbourhood, and Burton is mistaken for that individual Jean resolves to save him, and she hides him in a bam, where Burton comes in contact with the actual fugitive, and the two engage in a fierce battle. This incident reveals to Jean the hired man’s true and in turn Ted learns of the high character. After the revelation Jean and Ted fall into each other’s arms, happy in their mutual love. ,
