HEREKINO.
(From our own Correspondent.) It is to be regretted that at the last moment the Taylor-Carrington Company decided not to visit here this trip. Their advent was well advertised and had the weather proved auspicious they would not have regretted it from a financial point of view. Now that the weather has improved it were high time that our roads were attended to. Seeing that it is so close on the general election it is a great wonder that it has not been seen to. Wc are not a bit further forward in the opening up of our vacant Crown lands than we were years ago. It is a plain fact that we are, I am sorry to say, in a much worse position. Our Mangouui County election is now over, and it is rumoured that only two of the old councillors have retained their ■eats. Our Hokianga County election nominations close on Ist November and the election if any takes place on the Bth. Mr. Peter Murray is Returning Officer for Whangs] .e Hiding. lam given to understand that so far there are two candidate J.P.’s in the field—Mr. H. C. Powell, an old councillor, and Mr. Robt. H. Bowman.
