On Saturday the weather for the football match, Britain v. Poverty Bay, was perfect and the ground in good condition. The attendance w: s estimated at 4000. Britain playing with a weak side outclassed Poverty Bay who, nevertheless, put up a splendid game, fighting to the last but the electric dashes of the British backs were too superior for tho local side’s defence. The game ended Britain 26, Poverty Bay nil.
Queensland beat the Maoris.
BRISBANE, July 3,
The Maori football team met a representative Queensland side here yesterday, and after a hotly Contes'ed game from start to finish were defeated by 0 points to 5. There was a very large i.ttendance of the public.
N.Z. University beaten by Sydney University.
SYDNEY, July 4.
The match between the New Zealand and Sydney University Rugby teams was played at the University oval to-day. The weather was fine and there wore 20,000 people present.
