To-day’s Passengers.

OPUA, to-day.

The following are the passengers from Auckland by to-day’s Clansman:—For Mangonui:—Mesdames Lutener, Arison, Quartley; Miss Johnston; Messrs. Bach, Reeve, Lutener, Quartley, Johnson, Peacocke, Young and Tracey. For Whangaroa: Mesdames C. Nisbet, Adams and 3 children: Misses Baxter, McAneny, Nisbet; Messrs. Ratjen, Hare, Nisbet, Masters, Lawrence and Boardman. RUSSELL, To-day. The Clansman collided with the scow Herald off Tiritiri last night. The Clansman’s steering gear was thrown out of order. For some time she stood by the scow, which it was feared at first was sinking, but finally they reported making no water and required no assistance. The scow’s lights were either absent or indistinguishable. No damage was done to the Clansman.

WELLINGTON, To-day,

A man named Charles William Whiteford, 47 years of age, while engaged in telegraph line work at Kilburnie yesterday afternoon, fell to one sido of the ladder, and when taken down by his mate he was dead. He is. said to have suffered from heart disease. Whiteford leaves a widow and several children,

GISBORNE, To-day. The news from Hick’s Bay states that the body of the Haupiri's sailor Lawrence, who was drowned there on Saturday, has not so far been recovered.

OAMARU, To-day.

A farmer at Georgetown, named James Fleming, is reported to have been drowned in the Waitaki River.
