Obituary.

It i* with deep regret that we record the death, from internal cancer, of Mrs. George Evans, which sad event occurred at Waipapakauri on Wednesday last, Ist May. It was but in Jannary last that the first symptoms of the dread scourge gave cause for oomplaint. In February Mrs. Evans intended to visit the exhibition at Christchurch, but, the distress being then more acute, while in Auckland medical attention was procured. As a result the contemplated trip was discountenanced, and she returned home, but gradually grew worse until in March she was again taken to Mount Pleasant Htwpital, Auckland, where an operation was performed giving temporary relief. Under the careful attention of Nurse Lever Mrs. Evans returned home once more, looking apparently quite well. The great change, however, came last Sunday morning, from when she graduually grew worse, and despite all that love and human skill could do died on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The interment took place at Paparore cemetery on Thursday afternoon, at 3.30 p.m., the funeral obsequies being conducted by the Court Pride of Awanui, A.O.F. The ceremony was very impressive, and the large concourse of mourners, coming from all parts of the North, showed clearly in what high esteem the lady was held by one and all. Mrs. Evans was the third daughter (Emily Wright) of the late Mr. Valentine Blagrove, Parua Bay, Whangarei, and she leaves behind a husband and three little daughters to mourn their loss. The deceased lady was universally respected, and sincerely loved by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, to which facts the many floral emblems and messages of condolence bore mute hut eloquent testimony, and to which we can only add our sympathy for the bereaved husband in his sore affliction.
