School Committee.

A meeting of the Mangonui School Committee was held in Reinhardt’s hotel on Saturday, 16th June. There were present: —Messrs. R. T. Wrathall (Chairman), S. Wrathall, A. G. Quartley, and Chas. Reinhardt.

The minutes of the last meeting were not present or read.

The following resolutions were passed: That the first quarterly meeting be held next Saturday; that this committee use its best endeavours to obtain a bettor attendance of children than has previously existed; that a visit of inspection be paid to the school, and a report made as to its condition generally and improvements required, with special attention to the latrines. An account for £1 5/-, from Miss Francis Bramley, was passed for payment. An account rendered for 18/-, from Charles Harris, was held over for the secretary’s report. A wire was read from the Secretary of the Education Department re the election of a School Committee. It was resolved that the names be forwarded by the Chairman with a memo, that the committee had been duly elected. Mr. Quartley moved, and Mr. Wrathall seconded, “That this committee deplores the loss of a great statesman and Minister of Education of this colony, and one who laid the foundation of free, secular and efficient education.” The motion was carried in silence.
