Thursday, April 28. [Before J. Poynter, Esq., Eesident Magistrate.] Francis Pearce summoned Janies Smith for an assault, on the night of Wednesday. Bartholomew Murphy, sworn : lam a constable. Last night at about ten o'clock Mrs. Porthousc called for a constable. I went. They were endeavouring to put the prisoner out of the house. I saw prisoner kick prosecutor. He was very drunk. While in the cell prisoner broke a bucket. The value of the bucket is seven shillings. The prisoner was fined £2 and costs for the assault, 10s. 1 for being drunk, and ordered to pay 7s. for the bucket, and in default of payment of the £2 and costs for the assault, was sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment with hard labour'
