NINE DAYS' LATER NEWS. The Simla, it appears, through some accident, was detained at Suez until the arrival of the Candia, with the English mail for India of the 25th March, and was thus enabled to furnish the Melbourne press with nine days' later intelligence. The arrests of suspected politicians in Italy still continued, and it is said that 150 persons had recently been seized in Austrian Italy. The political trials at Genoa had concluded. Fifty prisoners had been sentenced to various terms ot imprisonment, and Mazzini and five others (who did not appear and were tried in j their absence) were sentenced to death. j Orsini's wife and children were residing at Paris. Mr. Alsopp is supposed to be concealed j at New York, and French and English detect -ives are prosecuting an active search for him. | j The following is from the Melbourne Argus of May 13 :— CHIEF INTELLIGENCE OF THE WEEK ENDING- THE 25th MARCH. Another Service Brevet has been issued, and there is also a considerable distribution of Bath honour. Generals Mansfield and Cotton, and Colonel Seatonare created K.C.B.s. The advertisement of the East India Company's loan has been issued. The amount now to be raised is five millions. The troops engaged before Delhi are to have twelva months' batta, and that part of the captured property taken from the mutineers and rebels is to be considered prize. The Duke of Malakoff (Pellisier) is to replace M. Persigny as French Ambassador at our Court,
