Gentlemen — I have this day received your Requisition, requesting me to allow]inyself to be put in nomination as one of the members of the Town of Nelson in the Provincial Council. Admitting to the full extent the axiom, that every member of a Free State is^bound to give a share of his time to the public service when his fellow citizens require him, I at once cheerfully accede to a request so flattering to myself, and I assure you that should I have the honour to be elected as one of the representatives in the Nelson Provincial Council, I shall there honestly, impartially, and earnestly exert myself to promote every measure calculated to benefit our Province in particular, and the Colony generally.
