ATOMIC BOMBS

500 A YEAR U.S. BUILDING UP STOCK-PILE New York, Dec. 21. The United States is now constructing 50(1 atomic bombs a year for a' stock-pile. This was indicated in a speech by Dr. Irving Langmuir, who said that the production costs of each bomb were 1,000,000 dollars, and that the United States was spending 500,000,000 dollars a year on them. Dr. Langmuir expressed enthusiasm at the decision of Messrs Truman, Attlee, and Mackenzie King to exchange information with the Russians. “It was a great mistake not to include Russia in the atomic bomb project in the first place as we did Britain and Canada,’’ he said. He attributed many of the current diplomatic and political difficulties to Russia’s feeling of insecurity regarding the atomic bomb.
