LOSS ON YEAR’S OPERATIONS In his report at the annual meeting of the Westport Jockey Club, the presiI dent (Mr A. G. Colvin) said the year’s operations had resulted in a loss of £7O, and this, with the loss of £550 during the previous year when the club was unable to hold a race meeting, had further reduced the accumulated fund. He expressed appreciation of the action of the Nelson Jockey Club, whose property was occupied by the military authorities, in transferring its day’s racing to Westport this season, thereby making it possible fpr the club to carry on. Referring to the amalgamation of the Westport Trotting Club with the Jockey Club, Mr Colvin said the negotiations had been successfully carried out and the arrangements made were unanimously agreed to by members of the committee. The combined committees, he 1 added, were at present carrying out a ; programme of improvements and the j work would be continued as quickly I as labour and materials became available. After some discussion bn the dates , allocated for the annual race meeting | in February, which the president said • would clash with the one day’s meeting I of the Canterbury Jockey Club on 2nd j February. 1946. the matter of any rei arrangement, if required, was left to [the committee to deal with. Menzies and J. W. Scanlon; secretary, Mr J. Radford.
