FORETAST OF SUMMER CONDITIONS MONTH'S WEATHER REVIEWED Several hot days during November brought to Nelson a foretaste of summer conditions. A series of southwesterly winds in the middle of the month dried out the countryside and temperatures mounted rapidly to a maximum of 80 degrees last Wednesday. The sunniest clay was Saturday. 17th November, when the sun shone foils hours 20 minutes, but there were four other clays on which over 13 I hours’ bright sunshine was recorded. The total for the month was 288 hours 11 minutes, making it the sunniest November since 1934, when 204 hours 30 minutes’ sunshine was recorded. Only 1.78 inches of rain fell during Ihe month, .49 on Wednesday, 21st, and 1.10 the following day. This was below average and slightly less than the 1.81 inches recorded in November last year. The total rainfall for the year now stands at. 40.80 inches, compared with the average of 37.96 inches. The weather was much belter than in November last year, when conditions were unsettled and unseasonable. Temperatures were below average and on only two occasions exceeded 70 degrees. This was largely clue to several late ■ falls of snow. A severe hailstorm in . the Redwood’s Valley district resulted in considerable losses in some orchards and two late frosts were recorded.
