GOLDEN BAY DISTRICT BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING PROVISION OF HOUSES FOR STAFF DISCUSSED At the November meeting of the Golden Bay Electric 1 ower Board Mr E. H. Nees occupied the chair and the following members were present: Messrs J. Vaughan, B. F. Falconer, A. H. Baigent and N. L. Bensemann. Accounts totalling £ 367 5s 9d were passed for payment. The Wairarapa Electric Power Board asked for particulars of the durability oi concrete poles. The engineer was asked to supply the information. The State Advances Corporation, advised that money at 3 per cent interest was not available to local bodies for the erection of staff houses. The chairman suggested that if the board wished to proceed with the project of staff residences it would have to raise a special loan at approximately 3£ per cent interest. The board decided to approach a Nelson builder for a loan of plans of houses costing £IOOO to £ISOO. These would be used for the purpose of making estimates. The Pohara Domain Board asked the board to consider supplying power to the domain and wiring the huts to he placed there, as a donation. The board expressed interest in the Domain Board’s proposals and the secretary was asked to state that The board would indicate the extent of its assistance when final details of the proposals for improvement were known. The Golden Bay A. and P. Association asked the board to donate a special prize at the forthcoming show. It was decided to donate a special prize of £2 2s for electric cookery. The Bay of Islands Power Board asked for particulars of the board’s sick payment and leave arrangements for permanent employees. The secretary was instructed to reply that the board had no definite policy at present. Brisco, Mills, Ltd., advised that they were unable to supply or procure one ton of No. 8 galvanised steel wire. The engineer stated that the wire was required to complete Simpson’s line, and at his suggestion it was decided to procure copper wire. It was resolved that the engineer get in touch with the suppliers of street light brackets with a view to expediting their delivery. The engineer was asked to supply an estimate for erecting a three phase wire to the showgrounds. ENGINEER’S REPORT The Engineer-Manager, Mr J. P. Cottier, reported for the period 12th October to 9th November as follows: — Supply Operations: Units purchased from the P.W.D. during October totalled 242,445 with a maximum demand of 464.5 kw., at 6 p.m. on 23rd October, compared with 22,710 units and 439 kw., for the corresponding period of last year. ‘'Consumers: Nineteen wiring permits were issued during October, comprising three new installations and 16 additions representing an increase in connected load of 16.5 kw. Meters were fitted to five water heating installations. “Income: Revenue from the sale of electricity for the quarter ended 30/9/45 amounted to £2,249 (same period of last year £2200 —making a total for six months of £4,492 (£4,435) a r increase of £57. Sales of appliances and wiring installations for the same period amounted to £674 making a total to date of £1299.” The report was adopted. Stop ihai Cough!
