INVESTIGATION DEMANDED

GENERAL HURLEY’S ALLEGATIONS Washington, Nov., 29. Demands are being made by members on all sides of both Houses for an investigation into Brigadier-General Hurley’s allegations. Senator Wherry, Republican whip, said that the conduct of some diplomats as described by General Hurley, skirted on the edge of treason. Senator Connally, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee said: “I would like to have General Hurley come back and look us in the eye and tell us what some of these terrible things are.” Senator Connally said that General Hurley declared that he was in full agreement with President Truman and Mr Byrnes’ foreign policies yet he resigned because he did not like what some clerk or assistant was doing. General Hurley told the press that if the attacks on him continued he might tell the name, number and places where America had supported ideologies contrary to the principles for which he said they fought the war. Mr Hugh Grant formerly United States Minister to Albania and Siam, told interviewers that the whole foreign service system should be thoroughly cleansed and reorganised.

THE COMMUNIST PARTY New York, Nov., 29. Asked during an address to the National Press Club if he thought the Communists would eventually win out in China General Hurley said, “The Communist Party in China is a reform party. They are out of office and they want to get in. The only difference between the Chinese Communist and the Oklahoma Republican is that the Oklahoma Republican is not armed.”
