PROVISIONAL RETURNS COMPLETED Wellington, Nov. 29. According to the latest census returns, the population of Waikato County has increased by 2438 since 1936. Maoris are included in the totals. The comparative figures for 1936 ?11ow for subsequent boundary changes, where applicable. This year’s figures are given first. Waikato County 14.315. 11,877; Eden County, 1378, 1089. In Eden County the operation of the Counties Act is suspended. The three road districts of Mt. Roskill, Mt. Wellington and Panmure Township comprise the bulk of the County. Populations of these were included in preceding statements. Provisional totals have been issued for every county, city, borough or town district in New Zealand. In order to complete the population of New Zealand, the addition of three further groups is necessary:—(l) Population on shipboard; (2) populations on adjacent islands not being parts of counties, boroughs; (3) population on night trains. In 1936 population on shipboard numbered 4699 and on adjacent islands 1313. The principal adjacent island is Waiheke. figures for which (1082 in 1945 and 693 in 1936) have already been published.
