FOOD FOR BRITAIN
AS MUCH AS N.Z. COULD SPARE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. New Zealand at present was sending as much food as she could spare and no other steps, apart from further increased primary production, could affect the quantity available for shipment, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Sullivan) in the House of Representatives replying to an urgent question by Mr E. P. Alderman (National, New Plymouth). The Minister added that the question of providing a part of that food free of cost to Great Britain would be considered. That, however, would not increase the quantity of food provided, but would be in the nature of a free gift. Mr Aderman had asked whether the Government would take immediate steps to enlarge the scope of the scheme to provide gift foodstuffs to Britain on a Dominion-wide basis.
