“WOMEN AT WAR”
ADDRESS TO CITY LUNCHECfX CLUB At the Nelson City Luncheon Club’s weekly meeting the guest speaker was Mr W. B. Mundav, who spoke on “Women at War.” Mr Munday said that it was time that the civilian population realised the extent and importance of the work that was done by the women who enlisted in the various branches of the services. Women ivere drafted to certain jobs in the signal service, in the artillery, anti-air defence and fortress areas. They were employed in the District and Area Offices and in the camps and thus many men were released for combatant duties. Mr Munday said that when he heard that he was to have a class of 70 women to train in signal work he received the news with mixed feelings, but he soon found that his class made commendable progress and accepted their duties in a fine spirit They exhibited a will to work and kept excellent note books on the many technical matters with which they were concerned. So well did they understand the intricacies of signal work that in no time they were able to correct the men in the difficult matter of signal procedure. A vote of thanks to the speaker was moved by Mr W. Harris and carried with acclamation.
