TAKAKA MONTHLY MEETING

Mrs N. Bensemann presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Takaka Women’s Institute when two new members were welcomed. The motto for the month was “God loves a cheerful giver. He also loves a giver of cheerfulness.” The book on the history of the W.I. movement in England was passed round and read with interest. The visit to the district of the Dominion President, Mrs Barnicoat, was discussed. It was decided to hold a short monthly meeting before Mrs Barnicoat’s school of procedure on the second Wednesday in September. Donations to the Leper Appeal will be accepted at the next meeting. The roll call “Sounds I like and sounds I dislike” was well answered. The tinkle of tea-cups, as would be expected in tea-drinking New Zealand, was one of the most popular sounds. Mrs Stobie’s demonstration of felt posies w£s very interesting and the demonstrator was warmly thanked. Competition results in the best bloom section were Mrs Mason jr., 1; Mesdames Bensemann, Bird, A. Newlove, 2 equal; best article from a flour bag, Mrs Bird 1. Hostesses for the afternoon tea were Mesdames F. Bird, K. Feary, R. Mason and D. Mason.
