P. AND T. CONFERENCE WELLINGTON, This Day.—The P. and T. Employees’ Association and Officers’ Guild biennial conference opened yesterday and it is expected to lajt to the end of the week. Addresses were given by the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, and Mr Jones, Acting Postmaster-General. The Ministers eulogised the work of the Department and especially its part in the way effort. Mr Jones said 63 officers of the Department had been decorated and 54 mentioned in dispatches. A total of 248 had paid the supreme sacrifice and 24 were still missing. Mr H. M. Patrick, Director-General, who in the past, has held important positions in the Association, said his ideals and principles were unchanged. It was a pleasure to be able to receive representations - from the staff and grant many of their requests.—P.A. CANADIAN TROOPS IN PACIFIC LONDON. Aug. 6.—Canadian troops have arrived in the advanced Pacific areas.
