RECLAMATION OF WASTE

FOUR-FIGURE CHEQUE FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS

Wellington, Aug. 6. Mr J. W. Collins, chairman of the National Council of Reclamation of Waste handed the Hon. W. Perry, a cheque for £9497 15s 9d which, with £IOOO previously paid, makes £10.497 15s 9d, the proceeds of the sale of waste for the year ended 31st March for the benefit of the National Patriotic Fund. Mr Collins said the council’s activities were nearing an end and the work would be taken over by the Ministry of Supply. In the five years of its operation a total of £54,976 had been paid to patriotic funds. The collection included 25,700 tons of paper, 5068 lons of rubber including over 500.000 truck and car tyres, 3>1.5201bs of cleaning rags, 4.780,000 glass containers and 2170 tons of non-ferrous metals.
