J. Edwards, according to the “Sunday Express,” was a stoker on a warship to the date of his election during the war. He represents Whitechapel and is the first sailor from the lower deck to hold political office in the Admiralty. He has been a popular and effective back-bencher and is now entitled to a general salute when he steps on the quarterdeck. His Majesty approved of a barony for Mr Pethick-Lawrence, and made Messrs Isaacs, Bevan, Barnes and Shinwell Privy Councillors. Lord Addison will be the leader of the House of Lords. Mr William Whiteley, who’ was joint Government Chief Whip in the Coalition Government, has been appointed the Labour Party’s Chief Whip, at Mr Attlee's special request.

, London, August 5. The radical transformation of Parliament stands out from the new membership,- says the “Observer’s” special correspondent. For the first time in the long history of the British Parliament its predominant elements are not vest: ed property or sectional interests Right or Left. For the first time it is a truly national Parliament.

On the Right, land, finance and industry are reduced from a full third to a mere eighth of the membership of the House of Commons. On the other hand, in the Parliamentary.
