UNRRA’S WORK IN FAR EAST
COMMITTEE MEETS IN LONDON London, Aug. 3. At the meeting of the UNRRA Committee for the Far East in London, New Zealand was represented by Mr R. M. Campbell, and Professor A. G. B. Fisher, both of whom were in the New Zealand team at UNRRA’S first meeting at Atlantic City two years ago, while Professor Fisher attended the Council meeting at Montreal last year. Mr Lehman, Director-General of UNRRA, presented a report and spoke on UNRRA’S work in and for the Far East and South-West Pacific up to mid-July, 1945. He referred to supplies from New Zealand, where arrangements are being made to procure surplus military clothing, raw wool and other products. The possibility of securing meat and dairy products from Australia and New Zealand had been comprehensively reviewed and it was hoped that despite existing commitments and production problems limited amounts of these supplies may be provided during 1945 for UNRRA programmes in the eastern and south-eastern part of Europe.
Mr Lehman referred with appreciation and hope to the collection in New Zealand of used clothing which is urgently required for war victims. P.A. Special Correspondent.
