SEX EDUCATION

[To the Editor]

Sir,—-The present propaganda of the N.Z. Educational Institute in favour of sex-teaching in schools deserves attention. The item in to-night’s “Mail” issued by it reveals this teachers’ organisation as desiring to give sex teaching to children, but does not reveal what sort of sex teaching, except that Russia is mentioned. The N.Z. Educational Institute is against the teaching of Christianity by teachers in the schools, so presumably the sex teaching it wants will not be on Christian lines. ' The Christian teaching is that the ideal in sexual conduct is self-control. The antiChristran sex teaching is the opposite. Is there any evidence, however, that it is necessary to teach people to give free rein to their sexual passions? Or is the teaching to be directed to expounding how to do so and escape the natural consequences? This seems to be the- current line of sex-teaching sold at the New Education schools in Britain. What precisely is it that the Educational Institute admires in the sex teaching given in Russia? All these points demand elucidation. Under socialism the family is doomed to destruction. The family is an institution that naturally leads to capitalism: its maintenance is wrapped up with private property, inheritance, saving, landownership, and so on. Practically all the leading socialists have been against the family as an institution. Socialist propaganda for over half a century has been directed to infecting the school teachers and university professor with socialism in order that they may pump it into the uncritical minds of immature youth under their control. —“Teacher says so, so it must be right.” This line of action has met with great success. Is the question now raised by the N.Z. Educational Institute’s propaganda bureau activities one of whether the public will stand for the schools being used for socialist sex propaganda undermining home and family?—-! am, etc.,
