SERVICE RESTORED
TELEPHONE COMMUNICATION WITH FRENCH PASS
COMPLETION OF NEW LAND LINE The erection of a land line round the harbour shores at Croisilles has now been completed by the Post and Telegraph Department engineers and telephone communication between Nelson and the French Pass area has been restored after a disruption in the service of several months’ duration. Cessation of the telephone service in the area resulted from a break in the fivemile length of cable running across the Croisilles harbour on the one line from French Pass and Pelorus to the rest of New Zealand through Nelson. This section of cable has been replaced by the new land line connecting with the French Pass Post and Telegraph Office. Since the breakdown occurred a radio telephone has been installed at French Pass as a temporary measure to replace the telegraph service.
