TAKAKA ANNUAL MEETING Mrs J. W. Page presided over a good attendance at the last meeting for the year of the Takaka Women’s Institute. The motto for the month- read by the president, was “to make men out of boys and women out of girls, there is no place like home.”'' The sting in the tail of the roll call “Sing, say or sixpence pay.” induced most members to answer with anecdote or verse. Once again the best bloom competition produced many beautiful entries. The winners were: Mrs A. Rose 1, Mrs A. E. Sanderson 2. Once again the best bloom competition produced many beautiful entries. Many new members had joined, replacing the unusually large number of keen Institute members who had left the district. Mrs Page thanked members for their good attendance and loyal support. Entries in the flower competition had been splendid all the year. The demonstrations given had been interesting but there was still need for new demonstrators. Mrs Page was thanked for her re< port. Mrs Bensemann presented a spray to Mrs Page in recognition of the work she had done, and expressed regret that she was retiring from, the chair. Mrs P. Wood, the leader of the drama circle, read a report of the year’s activities and appealed for new members. Mrs Page presented her with a shoulder spray, also the secretary Mrs Stobie, the treasurer Mrs Lockhart, and Mrs Maunder. Mrs Page mentioned that since last meeting a member, Mrs J. Manson, had left the district. Although time had not permitted a social function, a presentation had been made to Mrs Manson. The following officers were elected: president, Mrs N. L. Bensemann; vicepresidents, Mrs J. W. Page and Mrs W. Gibbs; secretary, Mrs C. Stobie; treasurer, Mrs J. Lockhart; committee, Mesdames R. Park, C. Ellery, T. Deavoll, A. H. Rose, A. E. Sanderson, P. Wood, and Miss H. Campbell; drama circle, Mrs P. Wood (convener). Hostesses who served afternoon tea were Mesdames J. E. Windle and J. Lockhart.
