SERVICEMEN HONOURED

TAKAKA FUNCTION Many Takaka residents attended a dance in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday night, arranged by the Soldiers’ Presentation Committee in honour oi Sapper L. Papps. Mr N. L. Bensemann made a presentation on behalf of the public of Takaka and handed Sapper Papps a gift from residents of Central Takaka. Mr A. H. Rose, on behalf of the county and Mr J. Vaughan for the R.S.A., wished the guest of honour good luck and a safe return. L.A.C. D. Gibbons and Stoker N. Robertson, two servicemen on furlough, were welcomed by Mr Bensemann. All three servicemen replied and were accorded musical honours. Mrs V. Page and Mr G. Page supplied the music and Mr M. Hill played an ex.tra. Mr E. H. Nees, the M.C., organised a waltzing competition. The judges, Mr and Mrs C. Beattie, declared Miss D. Harwood and L.A.C. Sullivan the winners.
