“LOST” GENERATION PREDICTED
A postwar “lost” generation composed of young persons now at work who will be squeezed out of jobs by returning veterans is forecast by Dr. Robert C. Lynd. Professor of Sociology at Columbia Universfty. The sociologist described the new “lost” generation as similar *o that in Germany and Austria after World War I—“too young for the glory of having been in war and passed over when jobs are given returning veterans.” “In the angrv times here in U.S.A. after the war,” he continued, “when men fight for jobs. there will be a tightening of anti-Semitic, anti-foreign, as well as anti-nesro treatment. “In suite of optimism, philanthropy and youth conferences, this is one heil of a world for kids to be trj'vng to grow up in. with the situation deteriorating. not imnroving, as power politics on a world scale and fear and cynicism here at home increase.”— (“New York Times,”
