ALLIED RAID
j OVER 60 PRISONERS TAKEN ANZIO BEACHHEAD AREA London. April 16. Reuter’s correspondent at Allied headquarters in Italy says a raiding party took prisoner more than 60 Germans three miles south of Littoria on the right flank of Anzio beachhead. Patrol activity in the Adriatic sector has considerably increased with a great deal of German movement in the Ortona area. Algiers radio reports that at the southern end of the main Fifth Army front the Allies now hold Trimonsuoli two miles west of Minturno. The Germans have thrown heavy reserves of artillery into this area in an attempt to stem the Allied advance. An Allied communique from Italy says our patrols on all fronts are very active, inflicting casualties and taking prisoners. Large formations of mecli-um-bombers last night bombed targets low the Iron Gate at Turnu Severin (a Rumanian port on the Danube below *he Iron Gate). Large formations of escorted heavy bombers yesterday attacked railvvay targets at Bucharest. Ploesti. and Nish.
