WOMAN SHOT DEAD

ACCIDENT IN ARMS PLANT Melbourne, April 7. Mrs Kathleen Louisa Hines, aged 62. of Kew, was killed outright when n sub-machine gun accidentally exploded at a Government arms testing plant at Coll ing wood, which she and her husband. Mr G. W. Hines, aged 67. butcher. were visiting. The accident occurred on the testing range, a pit in the basement of the factory, when a gun which had jammed was bein’’ examined. The weapon was being dismantled when a cartridge in the barrel exploded, the bullet piercing Mrs Hines’ forehead and finally lodging in the woodwork on stairs leading to the pit. Mrs Hines, was the mother of four children, two of whom are married.
