PACIFIC WAR SITUATION TOKIO RADIO COMMENT RAID ON KURIL ISLANDS (Rec. 1.10 p.m.) New York; Feb. 7. The enemy’s raid on the Kuril Islands must not be regarded lightly says official Tokio radio. The enemy’s offensive throughout the Pacific is about to be strengthened by another step. Tckio is only 11 hours from the Marshalls by the enemy’s Flying Fortresses and the Pacific war situation is becoming more serious. Vichy radio quoted a Japanese communique as saying tliat Americans had landed on the Kuril landsINVASION OI MARSHALLS It. is rather doubtful whether the Japanese will use then fleet in a bid to eject ihe Americans Horn the Marshalls since it would have to operate in an area where the enen.y dominates the air says the German news agency * Tokio correspondent. It is therefore to be expected that the Americans will be able to establish themselves in the Marshalls where they are attacking with overwhelming superiority. There is no denying that the Americans’ offensive culminating in Marshall* landing has created a new situation in the Pacific, the effects of which in the near future are difficult to foresee.
