OBITUARY

MR N. J. N. PEACOCK Mr Norman Peacock, a well-known and highly respected resident of Murchison, whose death occurred recently, went to Murchison from the North Island 32 years ago, taking up a F arm in the Maruia Valley, where he remained until the 1929 earthquake. His farm was rendered untenable by the earthquake, and he moved to the Four River Plain where he remained until the time of his death. The late Mr Peacock took an active interest in all matters pertaining to the farming industry, and was a director of the Murchison Dairy Company for over 25 years. He was the chairman of the local Herds’ Improvements Association from the time of its formation, later being elected as the Murchison representative on the association. He was also a very keen member of the committee of the Murchison A. and P. Association. Mr Peacock had been in declining health for the last six months, but until about six weeks ago continued in his work on his farm.

The funeral was largely attended by representatives from all parts of the district, who paid tribute to the high esteem in which he was held by all. The beerers were Messer L. J. Todd, C. Lynch, J. B. Milligan, E. M. Brown, C. Rait, directors of the Murchison Dairy Company, and Mr D. Win. Mr Peacock is survived by his widow, one daughter. Mrs L. J. Hutchings (Murchison), and five sons: Messrs Jack Peacock (Bay of Islands), N. J. Peacock (Murchison), E. Peacock (Levin), S. Peacock (Seddon), and C. Peacock (Murchison).
