U.S. 15th AIR FORCE BASE MOVED FROM NORTH AFRIO NOT A DAY’S OPERATIONS MISSED <Rec. 12.30 p.m.) London, Jan. 12 Cairo radio stated that the whole United States 15th Air Force — heavy bomber group in the Mediterranean—has been transferred from North Africa to Italian bases. The move was completed without missing a single day’s operations. It brings the bombers GOO miles nearer the enemy. CERVARO NOT CAPTURED? ENEMY RESISTANCE REPORTED (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) London, Jan. 12. Latest messages from Algiers state that the Allied command in Italy doe not confirm tho report that the Fifth Army has captured Cervaro, which remains a central point of enemy resistance. The German News Agency to-night reported street fighting in Cervaro. Allied correspondents state that the town is practically surrounded and its fall is expected at any moment. Stiff fighting is in progress for high ground overlooking Cervaro, says Reuter’s correspondent. British and American infantry, thrusting south from the main road, have now reached Monte Rocchio. The thaw setting in along the front, causing rivers to rise, and ground conditions are again hindering operations. Germans who crossed the Garigliano south-east of Castelforte established themselves in houses. Our troops immediately counter-attacked and drove the enemy back across the liver. Active patrolling is reported from the Eighth Army front where artillery ir also busy.
