100,000 SURFERS

SYDNEY BEACHES PACKED Sydney, Dec. 30. More than 100,000 people, it is estimated, surfed on the beaches near Sydney last Sunday. Bluebottles, shark scares and overcrowding made surfing unpleasant at some resorts. The largest crowds were at North Bondi, about 30.000; South Steyne, Manly, 30,000; and Coogee, 25,000. Some areas were so crowded that surfers were packed uncomfortably close together, and three swimmers vere injured in collisions.
