OBITUARY
MR ALLEN McPHERSON Wakefield lost another of its better known residents in the passing away recently after a long illness of Mr Allen McPherson. Born in Wakefield he spent the greater part of his life in the district Although of a retiring disposition he took a keen interest in the band and was a member for many years He is survived by his widow, three daughters and two sons. The sons were amongst the first to answer the call on the outbreak of war. Douglas is serving in the Middle East and Gordon is a prisoner* in Germany, having been wounded and captured during the battle of Crete. The burial service at St John’s Church Cemetery was conducted by Canon Daynes and the large attendance, together with the many floral tributes, showed the esteem in which the late Mr McPherson was held. MISS C KEMP The death of Miss Charlotte Kemp occurred recently at the Kawakawa Hospital Aged 83, she was a granddaughter of James Kemp, who, with the Rev J. G Butler, established the Church Missionary Society’s station at Kerikeri in 1819 One of a family of eight, she was born at Kerikeri and resided there all her life. After the death of her parents, she and her sister Gertrude continued to live at Kerikeri in the oldest wooden house in New Zealand.
