The Stamp Club
CONDUCTED BY THE STAMP MAN Dear Boys and Girls, —I wonder whether any of you have a page in your album headed “Austrian Italy”? No doubt you will wonder where this place is. Italy is quite a modern State, but, until about 70 years ago, a great deal of Northern Italy belonged to Austria. The provinces of Lombardy in 1859 and Venetia in 1866 reverted to Italy, but, while under the control of Austria, stamps were issued, in 1850, 1858, 1861 and 1863. However, the total varieties issued were only 21 ,and the prices today for these stamps vary from £25 for the first issue in 1850 down to 3d for one of the 1863 ones. Austrian stamps often have the value in “kreuzer” and the only way in which the Austrian Italy stamps can be distinguished from the ordinary Austrian ones is by their values being expressed in “soldi.” Your friend, THE STAMP MAN. Thank you for Stamps: “Welsh Lass,’; Maureen Hollis, Foxhill; “An Adult,” Takaka. _
